To "I", the interesting part of the Saturday Trib article about
Nalley's closing was the part about Nalley's owner getting handouts
from taxpayers:

"A Pinnacle news release said the move “is contingent upon the final
approval of applicable state and local incentives in Iowa.” Neither
Weese nor a Lee County, Iowa, economic development official would
provide specifics, though Weese said the incentives were under
discussion. Regardless of the incentives, Weese said, Pinnacle's
competitive analysis of the Tacoma and Fort Madison sites showed Fort
Madison was the location better suited to meet the company's needs."

Tacoma is infamous for squeezing taxpayers for money to bribe
millionaires to remain here. However, Lee County seems to surpass us
in stupidity since their plan appears to be to bribe Pinnacle even
though Pinnacle says they're going there anyway.

Unless, of course, Pinnacle is saying this as a ploy to get a better
handout from our perennial City Hall Santas...

All localities will do this to some extent. If Alex wants to move or open a
Co. here and employ 200 people that will all of course be buying things and
paying taxes then the city has an interest in trying to get me to do so.
Boeing is a great example. They are little by little moving. Other places
are wooing them to come there as WA gave them the 1 finger salute. When
Boeing is gone then they will wonder what the hell happened.

In reality the Engineers Union gave the Lazy B the salute.

Now in NC they are getting ready to do the same. You can run but you can't
hide.

While the Unions at Boeing play a part in them slowly moving out of State
the State it's self is the biggest player in this game. The people in charge
never seem to get it when they kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.
I was living here in the 70's when Boeing almost went down. I remember the
billboard about the last one leaving Seattle turn out the lights. Boeing
does not have as much pull on the state economy any more, but they are still
a huge chunk and when they go it will take a lot of scrambling to make up
for it.
